      Day 4: Fri Jul 25, 1997

Got a late start but got caught up on some sleep. Almost figured out the stupid dial-up program, except how to change the number once you set up a connection file. Crossed the Platte River several times so far.

Sharleen is enjoying the 75 mph speed limits but even at that speed I have to keep watching to keep her from going too fast.

We stopped at the Platte River at I-80 interchange 257 and took pictures and found some colorful pebbles in the river bed, also some flowers which arre now wilted on the dash.

We passed a big shoe store at North Platte, stopped in and tried to find some walking shoes. We both finally got a pair, we have a pair we bought the night before we left but both decided to return them so left them home. We also got gas in North Platte and took some pictures of a big thunderhead to our northeast (click on the image for another page). When leaving the station Sharleen said she was having trouble telling which lane we were supposed to be in, none, we were going the wrong way on a busy one way street. We survived. Then we got some food a headed west again. Threaded between some big thunderstorms, passed through the outer parts of one and got some good rain and wind blowing us around on the road. We expect to be in Denver in about 4 hours, it's 17:00 MDT now. We just crossed into Colorado and as fast as Sharleen is driving it shouldn't take as long as I thought. Might be too stormy to see the mountains very far away, if conditions allow we can try to see the green flash as the sun sets over the mountains, we'll probably be too close to them.

Didn't see the green flash, we were wandering around downtown Denver, looking for a certain address. We finally got there just about dark. Didn't get to bed too early.
