Day 34: Sun Aug 24, 1997
We had originally planned to leave early Sunday morning, but I could see that probably wouldn't happen so we got the room for Saturday night. Sunday morning I worked on web pages, we finally went out to the Waffle House around 1 pm something. The waitress was there so I brought the computer and showed her Mount Whitney. Back at the motel Sharleen called Bob, the one whose wife had died from cancer, and invited him along to White Sands. He was not able to go along but Ken and Dallis were. They live in Las Cruces and we arranged to meet them at White Sands at 5:30. Sharleen did a bit of laundry and we made it there almost on time and drove out into the white dunes. I took a picture of Ken and Dallis as we stood on a high dune in our bare feet. Ken is a retired rocket scientist; he worked at the missile range there, and I asked him to send me stories for the web page. If any come in I'll add them here. The weather was cloudy with rain in the distance, not a good evening for a nice sunset picture, so we all went back to Alamogordo and ate at Golden Corral, Ken bought. Then we showed them where the new produce place was on Tenth Street and went back to the room to look at web pages. They left after 11 pm.
