Channel 3 view of the data
Clouds are black.
Readers new to this site are directed to the
introduction and
description of the maps.
Large fires were seen only in southern California. A few other
small bright spots were seen elsewhere in the southwest but are
not shown here since they are close to the signal cutoff and are
uncertain.
Also note on the channel 3 image variations in water temperature are
visible in the Pacific.
Southern California
Four large fire areas are seen in this view. Three are not far from San
Diego, the large one is close to Escondido.
The northernmost fire seen in this view is at Malibu.
These fires spread rapidly because of the strong Santa Ana winds which
are gusting up to 50 miles per hour.
