Large fires were seen only in southern California. A few other small bright spots were seen elsewhere in the southwest but are not shown here since they are close to the signal cutoff and are uncertain.


Southern California

Four large fire areas are seen in this view. Three are not far from San Diego, the large one is close to Escondido. The northernmost fire seen in this view is at Malibu. These fires spread rapidly because of the strong Santa Ana winds which are gusting up to 50 miles per hour.

Also note on the channel 3 image variations in water temperature are visible in the Pacific.
