Hell's Canyon area

Color composite image using channels 1, 2, and 3.

This view is so smokey it is hard to see what is happening. A storm is seen on the west side of this image.

AVHRR Channel 3.

This infrared view cuts through the smoke to reveal the fires below. Hell's Canyon still burns. Eastern Idaho has a number of small fires. Near the west side of the image are several large fires but the view is complicated by the sunlight illuminating the storm clouds.


Wyoming

Small thunderstorms are scattered over the state in this view just before sunset.

AVHRR Channel 3.

The clouds appear black on this image. Just above the middle of the state is a bright spot which is likely a grassfire ignited by the lightning from these storms.
