This image was aquired by NOAA 14 at 09:59 UT over the western U.S.
This was a night pass with partly clear conditions.
Hell's Canyon Area
Map of the pass
Channel 3 view of the data
Black areas are clouds.
Oregon
Oregon shows the most fire activity of the states visible on this pass.
Partly cloudy conditions may block some of the fires from view. The clouds
show up as ragged black areas on the channel 3 image. The signal was lost
before the state was completely scanned. The fire detection software has
been modified to reduce false detections, but this also causes some of the
weaker fires to be unlabeled.
The Hell's Canyon fires are still active, now mostly on
the Idaho side. Other fires to the southwest and due east are
also still active.
Use this map to spot the smaller detected hot spots.
Use this map with the channel 3 view to locate some of the smaller
fires not detected by the software.
Washington
Two fires are visible in the north central part of the state.
Southern British Columbia
A fire is visible in southern British Columbia. It appears to be
just west of the small town of Lytton, perhaps on Skihist Mountain, or
in the valley of the Stein River, a tributary of the Fraser River.
Elevation data currently available to the software does not yet include
this region so the shaded relief map cuts off south of this fire.
Idaho
Mainly the Hell's Canyon fires and those to the east are seen
in this image. Two smaller fires might exist in southeastern
Idaho.
Wyoming
Yellowstone
The the fire near the Clark Fork of the Yellowstone is still visible.
It was clearly seen in the morning view of
Aug 24 14:14 UT but was not
visible in the earlier daytime view for
Aug 22 20:17 UT.
