This image was aquired by NOAA 14 at 09:33 UT over the western U.S.
This was a night pass with partly clear conditions.
Map of the pass
Channel 3 view of the data
Black areas are clouds.
Oregon: Hell's Canyon Area
The Hell's Canyon fires appear much reduced over their previous
state in this view. Some of the smaller fire areas,
both in Hell's Canyon and southwest of it
may not appear on the hot spot maps due to the detection threshhold being
set to not pick up too many false fires.
Idaho is largely blocked by clouds.
Use this map to spot the smaller detected hot spots.
The fire appears to be on both sides of the Snake River, especially
on the channel 3 image.
Northern California
Several major and a number of minors fires are visible in this
nearly clear view.
Use this map to spot the smaller detected hot spots.
Note that the resolution is degraded toward the west in this view.
See the pass map to verify this.
Southern California
The pass ends at the bottom of this area and near the edge
of the data the signal gets weak and noisy. This causes a band of false
detections along the bottom. Also the clouds in southern Nevada
cause some false detections.
Detections south of 35N and east of 118W are mostly, if not entirely,
false, and should be ignored unless verified by other methods.
There appears to be a large fire in the coast range.
Montana
A large area of fire appears to exist in southeast Montana.
The black areas are clouds.
A very small hot spot was detected in NE Wyoming.
