UPOS consists of a close partnership
between the JHU/APL Space Department and the
Geophysical Institute
of the University of Alaska. The program is designed to develop terrestrial and
space weather prototype applications for the Air Force Weather Agency
(AFWA)
and other customer agencies.
APL scientists apply new research to existing data, such as from
DMSP satellite or ground radars. A software transition team packages
the algorithms into Operational Prototype Applications for delivery
to the customer agency. Research for UPOS includes atmospheric, ionospheric and magnetospheric weather as
well as ground based sensors. Near-realtime access to these UPOS products are available
via this webpage.
