Kinematic Solar Energy Wind Model

Purpose:
The Hakamada-Akasofu-Fry (HAF) kinematic solar wind model predicts solar wind conditions (speed, density and interplanetary magnetic field) at the Earth based upon observations of the Sun. These solar wind parameters are key inputs to numerical prediction models for forecasting geomagnetic disturbances that impact space operations.

Input:
The HAF model ingests synoptic maps of solar source surface magnetic field and solar wind speed from the Geophysical Institute, University of Alaska, Fairbanks. It also requires solar event parameters extracted from solar flare, metric Type-II radio, and CME plane-of-sky (POS) reports.

Output:
The HAF model produces two sets of outputs: A space weather forecast for the Sun/Earth L1 point and plots of the Interplanetary Magnetic Field (IMF) in the ecliptic plane for each sampling time in the coverage period.
