These patterns are based upon the statistical pattern of Iijima and Potemra for disturbed conditions. In each figure for the northern hemisphere, noon MLT is to the left where the patterns have a break in the outer (Region 2) ring, and dawn is towards the top. For the northern hemisphere, noon MLT is toward the top and dawn is to the left.
The satellite track is indicated on each figure, as well as the inbound
equatorward edge of the oval (0) and outbound equatorward edge (1) as determined
by the "AC" magnetic field fluctuations. Figures are centered on the geomagnetic
poles. The files are named according to the convention:
fac_yy-mm-dd_hh.mm
where yy is the year, mm is the month, dd is the day, hh.mm is the Universal
Time near the mid-point of the high latitude pass.
