EPIC Science Data Center (SDC)
The EPIC Science Data Center (SDC), built around a DEC VMS Cluster
located at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics
Laboratory, is the central, dedicated data processing site for EPIC.
Mission data is processed into science data files and summary graphics images,
and is archived (more than 195 Gbytes to date) at this facility. The data files
and the
summary images
are made available to the remote data analysis
facilities (RDAFs) of the Co-Investigator
teams at the University of Maryland, the University of Kansas, Bell
Labs and the Demokritos University of Thrace and to the entire
scientific community. The distributed nature
of the SDC and the RDAFs, which share common software for data access and
analysis, permits quick access by scientists to the mission
data without restrictions due to network loads.
