EPIC Ground-based Data Processing

The EPIC Science Data Center (SDC), located at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, is the central, dedicated data processing site for the EPIC instrument. At this facility all EPIC instrument telemetry is processed into science data files and retained for access by EPIC team members and the broader community.

Instrument telemetry, as well as mission ancillary data, are retrieved for processing by the SDC from the FTP Distribution Site for Science Data, maintained by the Polar, Wind, Geotail Project Office, Code 612, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The data processing steps, in which the EPIC measurements telemetry is corrected and converted into data in scientific units, is detailed in an on-line PDF document.

These resultant scientific data are made available for users to access either as numeric ASCII downloads or as customized displays; see Data Access by returning to the EPIC Home page. Alternately, pre-processed summary images are available for quick review.
