You must have Java 1.5+ or higher to run the newer verions of MPHA.
A computer with a fully updated JVM will work fine.
An earlier version of MPHA that runs on Java 1.4+ can be
found here .
Status Updates
2007-Jan-15
There are two versions of MPHA - a current, regular or stable, version
and a test version.
These changes apply to the current version and the test version:
-
MPHA now requires Java 1.5 (also called J2SE 5.0). A copy of
an older version is available for those using Java 1.4, but this
older version has fewer options and capabilities than either
the current or test version.
-
MPHA can generate phaflux for a number of standard species boxes not
initially provided in the Science Rates.
-
The user interface has recently been changed.
-
MPHA can generate multi-panel intensity-time spectrograms of CHEMS data (counts only
for now) for either CHEMS Science Rates or phaflux calculations of rates and
current species boxes.
-
The UMD PHAFlux Box choices in the Plot Choices Dialog are currently merely placeholders.
-
The intensity-time line plots are not implemented yet.
-
I was not satisfied with the time management scheme routines I initially
devised for MPHA and am still in the process of simplifying these.
Additionally, the intensity-time capabilities added to MPHA required
significant changes to the internal structure of MPHA. I am still
reworking the MPHA code to improve performance and simplify access to
and presentation of the data.
-
MPHA can reread and sum, or concatenate, cache (*.rfx, *.pfx) files
and 'matrix image'(*.mhx) files
written earlier by MPHA through its DataOutput Dialog. Because MPHA
currently stores PHA information in memory and CHEMS PHA files can be
very large, up to eight times larger than CHEMS Science Rate files
(204 MB vs 25.4 MB for 05266, for example) this scheme quickly
limits MPHA's present memory-based
PHA-caching scheme when accumulating long time intervals. MPHA operations
use of these intermediate files allows longer intervals to be accumulated.
I intend to change this to a disk-based caching scheme as soon as other
functionality is fully stabilized.
These changes apply only to the test version:
-
The test version is essentially the same as the current version right now.
2005-Dec-09 - Initial Distribution.
The strategy is to provide two versions of MPHA for the
Cassini team - a current (regular) version and a test version.
Both versions will be updated when the newer test version
becomes stable.
